ROYAL BOHUSLÄNS REGIMENT
I 17
History:
The regiment was raised in 1720 by merging a squadron of the widowqueens
liferegement on horse and Bohusläns dragoonsquadron. The regiment
was first known as Bohusläns cavalry and dragoonregement. In 1727 the regiment
was reorganized into Bohusläns dragoonregement and in 1791 it reverted to the
infantry. The regement was located in Uddevalla and was disbanded in 1990.
The widowqueens liferegement on horse traces
its heritage to the Bohus-Jämntlands cavalrysquadron raised in 1661. The
squadron was split into two companys i 1670. One of these became the Bohusläns
cavalrycompany. In 1684 a new regiment was raised around this company. In 1720 the
regiment was split. The northern sqadron merged into Bohusläns cavalry and
dragoonregement.
Bohusläns dragoonsquadron traces its heritage to the in 1661
raised dragoonregiment in the former danish promises. In 1670 it was reorganized
into the Scania-Bohusländragoonregiment of which one squadron was located in
Bohuslän. The Scaniasquadron was disbanded in 1679 and the remaining squadron named Bohuslänsdragoonsquadron.
