ROYAL JÖNKÖPINGS REGIMENT

History:
The regiment traces its heritage in the infantry organized in Småland
in the middle of the 1500:s. The oldest dokuments are from 1563. This infantry along with
infantry from Östergötland was used by Gustaf II Adolf to form a regiment that was split
into two smaller regiments in 1623. One of these became Jönköpings regiment. Its first
commander was Lars Kagg. It was located in Jönköping and was merged with Kalmar regiment
in 1928 to form northern Smålands regiment that still exists.
