ROYAL LIFEGUARDS ON HORSE
The regiment traces its heritage to the Finnish Light Dragooncorps
that was raced in Nyland in Finland in 1770. In 1772 the regiment was enlarged by two
squadrons of the Hussar regiment, it was also granted guardstatus and was named
the Light Dragoons of the Lifeguard. The regiment was located partly in Stockholm and
partly in Borgå, Finland. In 1777 the regiment was located entirely to Stockholm with
smaller parts in Södertälje, Enköping and Sigtuna. In 1793 the regiments name was
changed to the Lifehussarregiment and in 1797 it was again changed to the Light
Lifedragoonregiment. In 1806 the regiment got its present name. In 1897 one
squadron of the Crownprince´s Hussarregiment was attached. In 1928 the
liferegiments Dragoons was merged into the regiment that was renamed Royal
Lifeguardsquadron. The regiment is to be absorbed by I 1 after 2000.
The regiments colors are white and blue.
