ROYAL NORRBOTTENS REGIMENT

History:
In 1841 Västerbottens Fieldjaegerregiment was split
into two corps. One of these became Norrbottens Fieldjaegerregiment. In 1892 this
corps grew into Norrbottens regiment. The regiment was located in Boden.
In 1910 the regiment got a forth batallion that in 1917 was reorganized into an
oversnow unit with skies. This batallion was located in Kiruna 1943. In 1945 the batallion
was detached from the regiment and formed the armies rangerschool. From
1994-2000 the regiment raised the 19:th mechanized brigade that was beeing reorganized from a motorized oversnow
Norrland brigade to a mechanized brigade with Strv 122 and CV 90. In this process I 19
absorbed P 5 and changed into MekB 19 in 1994. In 2000 the regiments designation
was changed back to I 19 but it will continue to train tanks and CV 90 units for
the new brigades.
