ROYAL NORRLANDS ARTILLERY REGIMENT

History:
The regiment was raised in 1893 by two batteries from Royal Svea
artillery regiment, two batteries from Royal Göta artillery regiment ( both
originally from the Stedtingks infantry regiment ) and parts of the divisions of Royal
Wendes artillery regiment located in Landskrona. The regiment was located in
Östersund. Between 1910 and 1927 one division of the regiment was located in Boden and
subsequently was used to form Norrbottens artillery corps. During the early
1900:s the regiment raised specially trained mountain artillery units. The regiment was
the one that remained horsedrawn the longest, becoming motorized as late as 1954. The
regiment was disbanded in 1997.
